Wistoria: Wand and Sword The Complete Guide
What Is Wistoria: Wand and Sword?
Wistoria: Wand and Sword is a fantasy anime and manga about a boy who never gives up when he is against the whole world.
The story is about Will Serfort, a student of Regarden Magical Academy. Magic is everything in this world, and Will has one big problem: He can’t cast a single spell. Not even the fundamentals. His classmates scorn him, his professors wonder why he is there, and on paper he shouldn't be able to survive. But Will has one thing most mages lack. An incredible sword talent. And a promise to a childhood friend that gets him through anything.
The manga is written by Fujino Omori, the writer of the popular series Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?. (DanMachi) with art by Toshi Aoi. If you enjoyed the blend of dungeon crawling and character-driven storytelling that DanMachi provided, Wistoria should feel familiar, but it also holds its own sense of identity and emotional depth.
Which says a lot about how the manga community received it from the very beginning and it was nominated for the Next Manga Awards in 2021.
Wistoria Manga: How Many Volumes Are There?
Wistoria: Wand and Sword gained a fanbase with its manga before the anime. The series started life in serialization in December 2020 in Kodansha’s Bessatsu Shonen Magazine and has steadily grown since.
The manga has fifteen volumes in Japanese as of April 2026, and the story continues with new chapters every month. Kodansha USA does the official English publication. To date, the series has sold over 3 million copies, a testament to how deeply this story has resonated with readers everywhere.

Wistoria has two paths, Wand & Sword.
Crunchyroll has the Japanese sub available for all territories they have a license for. Episodes of Season 2 air in Japan on Sundays and are released soon after with English subtitles.
Crunchyroll has confirmed that they will be doing an English dub for Season 2. The English dub of Season 1 is available on Crunchyroll, in which Corey Wilder stars as the English voice of Will Serfort. So sub watchers are winning at the moment as the English dub release date for Season 2 is not officially announced yet.
Season 2 OP: BELIEVERS by ASH DA HERO ED: Reachlight by Shiyui Both are good songs and fit with the tone of the show.
Wistoria Wand and Sword Season 2: What You Need to Know
You do not have to wait for season 2. Now airing. This is the officially confirmed information:
Release Date: Apr 12, 2026 Episodes: 12 Total Date: Sundays at 12:30 AM on Crunchyroll PT/3:30 a.m. ET Studio: Bandai Namco Pictures and Actas (both returning) Chief Director: Tatsuya Yoshihara (Director, season 1)
Season 2 picks up where Season 1 left off story wise. The first episodes revolve around Will’s graduation exams and a new threat that emerges during the Terminalia festival, a big demon attack threatening everyone at the academy. The story shifts to a new arc that manga readers have been clamoring to see adapted since episode 6.
If you're reading the manga, Season 2 is adapting from roughly volume 6 on, and will be covering some of the series' most intense story beats yet.
Should You Watch the Anime or Read the Manga First?
Depends on what kind of reader/viewer you are really.
The anime is a good starting point. The fight scenes are really well animated and the voice cast does a good job of giving real energy to the characters. If you want a more passive experience, or you're new to the series, start here.
The manga is a lot more in-depth with the story and is way ahead of the anime so far. If you’ve watched season 2, and want to continue where you left off, the next natural step is to start the manga somewhere around volumes 7 or 8.
Anyway, it's a story worth reading. Will Serfort is a protagonist you can truly root for. Not because he’s overpowered, but because he just keeps getting back up when everything is telling him to stay down.
